In this hands-on adventure kids will step into the shoes of real paleontologists. Help dig through dirt and uncover hidden dinosaur toys\, then make your very own fossil impression to take home!  \nSeptember 16 – 22: Dino Defenses: Stretch and stomp! In this active program\, kids will explore how dinosaurs defend themselves through fun\, dinosaur inspired yoga moves. Each pose teaches a different defense while helping little paleontologists build strength and balance!  \nSeptember 23 – 30: Soar and Roar: Fly high with prehistoric creatures in the sky! Kids will explore hidden numbers\, shapes\, and patterns using white crayons and watercolor paints. As they brush color over the paper\, math problems and geometric designs are revealed before their eyes!  \nAugust 12 – 18: Silly Sensory: Things are about to get silly! Kids will explore textures and colors as they create their own sensory bags to squish and squeeze. This hands-on activity is perfect for building fine motor skills in a calming\, playful way.   \nAugust 19 – 25: Tech Time: Ever wonder what’s inside your favorite gadgets? Children will become mini engineers as they safely disassemble old electronics to explore the parts and pieces that make them work. Through movement\, engineering challenges and sensory exploration\, children will engage with themes of marine biology\, physical activity\, ocean science and imaginative play!   \nJuly 1 – 7: Crustacean Station: Join us this week to get moving like your favorite ocean crustaceans. In this movement challenge\, children will be imitating the movements of crabs\, lobsters\, shrimp\, and hermit crabs. This activity encourages physical activity and imagination to learn about these ocean animals.  \nJuly 8 – 14: Jawsome Sharks: Shark week! Join us for a jawsome engineering challenge where children will design and build their own boats\, then test to see if their boats can float to escape the jaws of the hungry sharks.  \nJuly 15 – 21: Deep Sea Divers: Explore the mysterious ocean depths by discovering different ocean layers with a density experiment. Children can then make their own sensory bottles to recreate the different colors\, textures and animals that live in each ocean layer.  \nJuly 22 – August 4: Kinetic Sandcastles: We are bringing the beach indoors this week! Join us as we make sandcastles inside and make seashell impressions to learn about different seashells and the animals that may have lived in them.

Special activities\, times and locations are subject to change.  \nDecember 1–9: Hanukkah: Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights and lasts eight days. The Hebrew word Hanukkah means “dedication.” Guests will learn about the eight days of light by listening to the book Hanukkah Hop by Erica Silverman and discussing facts about Hanukkah. Then learn how to play dreidel with their caregivers.  \nDecember 10–15: Kwanzaa: The word Kwanzaa comes from the Swahili language and means “first fruits.”  Stop by the Blue Room as we learn more about the holiday that was established to help African Americans remember and celebrate their heritage. After hearing our story about Kwanzaa\, you will create your own kinara and learn about the principles it represents.    \nDecember 15–23: Oh Christmas Tree\, Oh Christmas Tree! Join us at the Sandhills Stage to learn about the origin of the Christmas Tree. Afterwards\, participate in a STEM activity as we create an unusual Christmas Tree together.     \nDecember 26–Jan 1: The Mitten: Join us on the Sandhills Stage for an interactive reading of The Mitten by Jan Brett.     \nSpecial Events  \nDecember 14: Winter Workshop: During the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.\, guests are invited to join Discovery Place Kids – Rockingham as we turn the Museum into a Winter Wonderland Workshop. Tickets are required for all guests to enter\, and include full day admission to the Museum\, workshop activities including an ornament making station\, cookie decorating\, letters to Santa and a photo opportunity with Santa and our favorite ice princesses – Elsa and Anna!  \nDecember 31: New Year at Noon:  Three\, two\, one…Happy New Year!  The Museum will open at 10:00 a.m. today to prepare for the big event. What did your favorite dinosaur like to snack on? Let’s find out! \nJuly 9–15: Junior Paleontologist: Become a junior paleontologist and dig into the fascinating world of fossils! We will learn about fossilization and get hands-on experience digging up dinosaur bones. \nJuly 16–22: Disco with the Dinos: Join us for a reading of “Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp.” Afterward\, we will explore the size of dinosaurs and how they move around. Bring your boogie shoes to this dinosaur disco! \nJuly 23–July 31: How do Dinosaurs Go to School? Hear the story “How do Dinosaurs go to School?” and create your dinosaur craft to take home! \nAll Month Long \n\nDino Hunt: 10 of our dinosaur friends have escaped and are hiding around the Museum! DESCRIPTION:As a sign of support and thanks to the community\, we’re announcing new ticket pricing for Richmond County residents as part of the Museum’s reopening! \nWe invite you to explore our new exhibits\, which include a climbing structure spanning two levels and four new science research stations. In addition to new exhibits\, some of the Museum’s “greatest hits” have been upgraded\, including the Gizmotron\, which is now the Rockingham Quarry\, a new racetrack in Speed Shop\, and the canoe at the tree house has been replaced with an interactive kayak rowing experience.
