Winter Kids Activities at Discovery Place Kids – Rockingham
Looking for indoor kids activities in Rockingham this winter? Discovery Place Kids – Rockingham is the perfect place for families to explore, play, and learn together. From science shows to story times, every visit is filled with hands-on fun for kids of all ages.
All museum events and activities are free with admission.
Theme: Wintersville: Winter is coming to Discovery Place Kids! Welcome to Wintersville, where Discovery Place Kids is transformed into a winter wonderland with playful, minds-on activities and winter themed adventures. Glide across a sock skating rink, dive into a flurry of indoor “snowball” fun and marvel at interactive science shows exploring everything from ice fishing and snowstorms in a jar to experiment with melting ice and the effects of cold and warm air.

Special Programs | Every Day at 1:30 p.m.
Join us for fun themed activities during the week all month long.
November 18 – November 24: Polar Opposites: What’s the difference between the North Pole and the South Pole? Explore magnetic poles and learn about the different animals that live on opposite sides of the Earth.
November 25 – November 30: Igloo Engineering: This week we will focus on learning how the Inuit people have used igloos for shelter and survival in the Arctic for generations. Put your engineering skills to the test to build your own igloo!
December 2 – December 8: Blizzards: Take a trip inside a blizzard to explore how wind and weather work together to make this phenomenon. Make your own snowflake to test how it withstands in our blizzard wind tunnel. Additionally, we are going to make mini blizzards in a bag to shake it up, watch the snow swirl, and see how the wind and weather create these conditions
December 11 – December 15: Northern Lights: Explore the glow of the Arctic Sky. Learn the science behind the Northern Lights to explore how solar energy and Earth’s magnetic field creates nature’s colorful lights!
December 16 – December 22: Animal Fur & Blubber: Ever wonder how animals keep warm through the winter? Explore the science behind their survival with this minds-on experiment.
December 23 – December 31: Snowflakes: Every snowflake is unique! At Discovery Place Kids we are going to make one of a kind cyanotype snowflake print!

December 16 | Messy Member Morning – Sensory Snowflake Fun
During Member Hour: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Get ready to scoop, squish, and sparkle at this month’s wintery Messy Member Morning! We’re bringing winter indoors with a snow-filled sensory bin packed with arctic animals to discover and explore. Then, create your own snowy ornament globes with fluffy snow and shimmering snowflake confetti to take home!

Puppet Show: Sammy Squirrel’s Holiday Party | Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1:30 p.m.
Sammy Squirrel wants to throw a Holiday Party! What does he need for his party? Find out what party decor Sammy needs in this fun puppet show with Sammy and his friends.
Science Show | Every Day at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Join us at the Science Lab all month for science experiments that engage guests in hands-on science exploration as they predict, observe, and experiment with cold weather science. Our Science Show is sure to instill curiosity in our little scientists.
